Q&A

Here are some questions you might have about the ball. If you still have questions, feel free to contact me.
Since we host 2 different events, there are 2 separate sections below with questions about the different events.:

1800's Prairie Dance Q&A

Q: Who can attend?

A: Homeschool students, homeschool graduates, and family. All ages are welcome. I know some parents that homeschooled their children, but now their children are grown and out of the house. They asked if they may attend. The answer is absolutely yes. This is a great fellowship for Christian homeschool families

Q: Will food be served?
A: This is event is a 1800's Prairie Dance and old fashioned ice-cream social. We will be having a ice-cream sundae bar available to you.

Q: What can I expect?
A: You can expect a night full of great Christian fellowship with other homeschool families.  Our venue is a gorgeous rustic barn with over 4,000 sq ft of dancing space. There will also be a string band playing while we dance.

Q:What should I wear?
A: This event is more casual than the Civil War Ball. Unlike it, women are not required to wear hoops or crinolines to this dance (now is where you sigh a sigh of relief, ladies). We do ask that you dress as close to the prairie theme as possible. It just makes the night more fun. But don't worry-it doesn't have to be fancy at all. All women must be in ankle length skirts or dress. But just a tiered cotton skirt will do. And men, throw on some jeans, cotton shirt, and some suspenders and you're good to go! For more information on dress code and modesty requirements, visit our Historical Outfits page

Q:What if I don't know the dances?
A: No worries. We have a dance caller that will teach the dances as we go. She will make sure everyone understands before moving on and beginning the dance.

The Civil War Ball Q&A

Q: Who can attend?
A: Homeschool students, homeschool graduates, and family. All ages are welcome. I know some parents that homeschooled their children, but now their children are grown and out of the house. They asked if they may attend. The answer is absolutely yes. This is a great fellowship for Christian homeschool families.

Q: Do I have to dress up?
A: Yes, everyone is to dress in period costumes. Dressing in period costumes helps set the tone for stepping back in time; and makes the dancing and pictures all the more fun. You do not need to spend a fortune on your costume though. There are very inexpensive ways to make your own skirt, etc. See the Historical Outfits page for more details

Q: What if I've never attended a Civil War Ball?
A: Don't worry. You do not need to know any of the dances to attend. The dance caller will thoroughly go over each dance and make sure everyone understands before moving on.

Q: What can I expect?
A: You can expect a night full of great Christian fellowship with other homeschool families.  Our venue is a gorgeous rustic barn with over 6,000 sq ft of dancing space. There will also be a band playing while we dance.
